Pennies for Polio

Welcome to the "Pennies for Polio" web site.  If your Rotary club or District is working hard to raise funds for polio eradication and are looking for new ideas with a "turnkey" solution, you've come to the right place.

In Rotary District 5110 we have developed the "Pennies for Polio" program to take to the schools in our communities and involve our children in the fundraising campaign.  This program has strong historical foundations in the Easter Seals "March of Dimes" program and the original "Trick or Treat for UNICEF" program . . . both of which raised funds to eradicate polio in the United States with the help of school children.  UNICEF still raises funds through "trick or treating" in October that send funds to developing countries to support education, clean water, food and medicine.  This program is unique to the United States and none of the funds raised are used in the United States.

October 2010 is the first time the "Pennies for Polio" campaign will be used in District 5110.  Our goal is to raise $350,000 per year for the next three years thereby raising $1 Million for polio eradication.  Media outlets throughout the district will be coordinated and supplied with the same PSA's for broadcast and print.

Clubs will have the option of participating in the program in the fall (September-October) or in the Spring (March-April).  This will give clubs the flexibility to work with their local schools and organize the local campaigns around school and club schedules.  The media campaign will coordinate with these two time periods.

We invite other clubs and districts to join us in this campaign.  Use our program materials (they are all in formats that can be edited for your specific needs) and then keep us posted as to your participation and your success.  Working together with our children we can as Bill Gates Sr. said . . . "Significantly change the world"  and END POLIO NOW!
